2011 EMMY JEWELRY

The Emmy's were last night and for me it's all about the fashion and jewelry-obv.!  Here are some of my favorite jewelry looks.  First, above is Sophia Vergara in Lorraine Schwartz earrings with more than 100 carats of emeralds and 60 carats of diamonds.  I love that she mixed the coral dress and emerald earrings.  Very bold, to die!

It's no secret that I love stacking bracelets especially when they are encrusted with diamonds.  Here is Gweneth Paltrow in Neil Lane black diamond and white diamond bracelets totaling 100 carats.

Nina Dobrev looks sleek in this stunning red number and Neil Lane diamond earrings and vintage inspired chocker set with 50 carats of diamonds.

Heidi Klum's total look wasn't my fav. so I'm only going to show this stunner of a ring.  It's by Lorraine Schartz and has fire opal and amethyst.  Gorgeous!!

MEN OF STYLE

There is no doubt about how much I love men.  I love them, preppy, grungy, long haired, short haired and everything in between.  Normally the only accessory I like to see on my guys is a beard (God I love a beard- yum!) but how amazing do these stylish men look in their jewelry.  They all are definitely exceptions to my no jewelry on guys rule.

JEWELRY IT GIRL: NICOLE KIDMAN

I love a girl that utilizes the power jewelry has to completely make an outfit and Nicole Kidman is a perfect example of that.  She certainly is not afraid to spice it up with jewelry. 

HOW TO MIX METALS: RINGS EDITION

A great way to play with your jewelry is to mix it up and wear all different colors of metals all at once.  The days of wearing matchy matchy jewelry are thankfully over!  Jewelry should coordinate but not necessarily match.  Once you see them worn all together they instantly "go" together.  Go ahead and take that gold ring and pile it on with your 2 silver ones.  If you are a little nervous on where to start here are a few tips to think of when choosing what works with what.

Your choices should look deliberate.  So an idea is to take 1 silver and 1 gold ring and wear them on the same finger.  I usually follow the rule that things look better in odd numbers so if you are going to wear 2 rings on one finger throw a third ring on another finger on the same hand to really make a deliberate statement.  If mixing stone color and metal color is a bit too daring for you, stick with one stone, say diamonds, but mix it up with the different color bands like Rihanna did pictured here. Remember that variety is the spice of life, so go express that through your rings, and have fun doing it!

EMERALD CITY

This emerald and diamond tiara sold at Sotheby's Geneva auction last week for a price-busting $12.76 million - the highest price ever achieved for an emerald jewel.  Worth every penny in my opinion!  So to honor this gorgeous deep green stone I thought I would post some more red carpet moments this gorgeous stone has had.

NATIVE AMERICAN JEWELRY

So I have a new jewelry obsession, Indian Jewelry!  It's hard for me to focus on anything but turquoise these days.  It can be worn formally like Cameronn and Eva above but I'm more interested in dripping in it on a more casual way like this 70's goddess and the maker herself below.

American Indian jewelry has been around a long time.  The first beads were found over 2000 years ago in the east.  So I would say they know a thing or two about bling.  Most of the Indian jewelry that we see today is from the southwestern tribes.  Each tribe has there own unique styles and traditions, but some common themes you see is the use of turquoise, which is a native stone to the area.  

It is believed that turquoise tends to bring good fortune, strength and helps overcome illness.
Native Americans have prized turquoise since the time of the Aztecs, who mined it in New Mexico.
Take a look at these examples and you can see why Native American Jewelry is my new obsession.

The Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Ball is my favorite fashion seen- obv!  A major trend at this years event was head pieces.  I loved them!  Check 'em out.
